Re: My Honda Family
Just to keep you folks up to date I have entered the Nippon Challenge this year in the Integra and the first outing was at Mallory on 18th April.
The car performed really well and I managed two class wins and finished both races infront of the class above me as well.

Re: My Honda Family
Yes it is a shame Peter, I used to really enjoy racing in the HSCC.

Re: My Honda Family
So the first two races have come and gone and it was all over far too soon
At one point I didn't think we were going to make it down as 3 miles down the motorway one of the trailer tyres blew out and we had to fix that on the hard shoulder :? so that left us with no spare. Then when we got to Mallory Chris noticed that the rear tyre on the camper was nearly flat  an omen ? maybe
Had a good natter with everybody as they arrived and a few beers were consumed, Andy from Vtec Direct come down in an Nsx to help and was talking about getting his ATR out later in the season :P .
So an early rise Sunday morning and we set about....watching the F1 qualifying of course  well they did while I signed on and scrutineered the car, just 2 advisories so my main worry was done away with and I could now enjoy the day.
Practice was at 10am and I made sure I was early into the assembly area to get a good shot at some early laps....not quite as when I came around Gerrards after the first out lap there were the tail enders so nothing for it but to carry on and pick my way through and try and find some clear track which happened on lap 6 with a time of 55.004, That pleased me as the fastest I went around here at Christmas was 57/58s so back to the camper to await the race at 2.30.

As you will see from the video I made a hash of the start with too many revs and dropped one place to Lee Bennet-Neil in the GT250 Integra who passed me on the outside, I managed to defend the inside line but an MX5 came around the outside of Gerrards so I was down to 9th . Coming upto the haipin for the first time Lee kept it pinned to the outside and i didn't need asking twice, up the inside and outbraked him and managed to keep him on the outside around the hairpin and then I was off dropping down into the Devils bend where I caught and passed the MX5 again...back into 7th 8) .
And thats how it stayed for most of the race with me trying to catch the Subaru in front and Lee and Roger (B18'd CRX) trying to catch me with the tail enders coming into sight I was going into new territory as the only car I had raced before was a tail ender itself  the first two were dispatched down the start finish straight one on the left then switched to the inside and got the inside line for the other one. 3 more were passed on the next lap and it was a clear run to the line and 7th overall and 1st in GT200 :P Chuffed ?....just a little bit
http://vimeo.com/11042251 I pressed the camera early so fast forward to wherever you want to watch from.
Race 2
On the grid this time in the same spot as the first race I got a better drive off the line (probably all the rubber I'd laid down on the first start  ) went for second gear and missed :x I never miss second gear..wtf..anyway i didn't lose a place so got on with Gerrards and tried to get back on par with the front pack..until the end of the straight when I go for fourth and get..second  jam it in third and then fourth and get on with it again with steam coming out of my helmet  all this has now got Roger pinned to my tail with Lee pinned to his and thats how we went for a few laps with me losing grip on the front for some reason which made me have to brake a bit earlier and feather the throttle through the esses and taking more and more kerb each lap :?
At some point during the next few laps Lee managed to get past Roger and was pushing me hard when the tail enders came into sight coming into the hairpin, around the hairpin and i thought 'come on move over one of you' I was trying to second guess which one would move but neither did! eventually a gap opened in the middle and I was through , a couple of laps later I was trying to set another MR2 up into the hairpin when the yellow flags came out and a Subaru and a MR2 were recovering from an off so it was Lee right up behind again and off we go down the straight and through Gerrards where I could have gone around the outside of another MR2 but I have seen them on the limit and opted to stay on the inside  one more lap and the tyres are crying enough .....an MR2 spins on the hairpin and down towards Gerrards once more, turn in and oh Sh1t an MR2 is in a slow motion spin towards the inner barrier...hits it and catapults back onto the track bringing with it loads of grass and dust...Days of Thunder pops into my head...go to where he was not where he's going.. :P back off and miss him by a few feet phew..right nail it and carry on if they red flag it I still keep my position. The crash though had allowed Subaru No.44 to creep up on us and he took advantage in Gerrards and I was down to 7th, Lee was still on my tail and I switched the camera to the back to get some footage, this was actually the last lap and Lee had his full lights on trying to distract me.. :P All I was thinking was 'not on the last lap mate...no way' I had to drive a fairly defensive line to stop Lee having a lunge into the esses and the hairpin but I managed and crossed the line in front...knackered.. 8) I want more of the same please guys that was fantastic, see you all at Snetterton.
