Parts From Japan
I recently bought some spares from Ricky Nagata off his website in Japan and thought I'd reflect on my experience.
Ordering and paying for the parts was faultless, with Ricky messaging me the progress at every stage and giving me a Tracking Number to trace the whereabouts of my new 'gems' whilst they travelled across Continents.
Departure from Japan was quick and efficient, taking approx two days, but the problem started when they arrived in the UK.
After waiting for 4 days I decided to use the Tracking Number on the Parcelforce website and discovered they were 'held' at the Coventry office awaiting Customs Duty Payment, news to me. Waited another couple of days to receive a letter with a unique payment reference to allow me to pay the bill and release my goods.
I appreciated that there may be some Duty to pay and I had to 'cough up' another £14 in taxes, plus £12 to Parcelforce for handling my Customs Duties and then delivery on to me.
Waited another day, no parcel. So emailed Parcelforce, no reply, very busy.
Next day rang there Customer Service desk and was told goods were being held awaiting instruction, my instruction was deliver the bl@@dy things.
Next day parcel arrived.
Two days to travel from Japan and a week to travel from Coventry, go figure??

Re: Parts From Japan
Yes the customs can hold for weeks and then everybody has their fee for zapping a scanner on it, at times parts just come through with on charge and no reason why.
I had an item from india and it was quicker than from the uk and no charges. I have bought worldwide over the years and the delivery can be quick or months, one time I had forgotten that I ordered it due to the months of waiting. Still main thing is that you get it in the end !

Re: Parts From Japan
Helps if you sort out the commodity code for the customs. Usually a 87 08 prefix but if you are not sure there is a helpline
