Single sided spot gun (for an arc welder)
Hi,
I will need to buy a spot welding equipment to weld some panels ( 2x 0,8mm) together and beside the classic “two sided” spot guns, there are also some “single sided” systems which are useful when only one side can be reached or when there is not enough clearance around a panel.
Here is a cheap version of a spot gun available at frost (to be used with an arc welder):
http://www.frost.co.uk/spot-welding-gun.html
The level of intensity is tuned on the arc welder and regarding the welding time…nothing is automated, so the result may vary a lot.
Did somebody have the opportunity to use such “single sided” gun? Can we get good results?
Thanks

Re: Single sided spot gun (for an arc welder)
If you're welding panels for repair/replacement, does it have to be 'spot welded' for authenticity? A great result can be achieved by drilling an 8mm (for example) hole in the front plate and using a MIG welder, welding through the hole onto the back plate and finally finishing the weld as a 'plug'. Any excess weld can then be ground off to suit your needs, or left intact if the weld is neatly finished.

I would think using an arc welder to spot weld sheet will be very difficult, use either a proper spot welder or MIG and plug weld. There is no cheap easy way that works properly. I use spot and gas did not get on with MIG but most people do.
