mag wheel lug nuts required
Hi all
I purchased a set of second hand alloy rims at the New Year Meeting in Tokyo in January but have had great difficulty finding wheel nuts to suit in Australia or on Ebay etc. The mag wheel studs are the standard S800 M10 1.5 size but i would prefer a shank after the nut to be 16mm or less where it passes through the wheel as this is the current diameter of the holes. Can anyone advise where I could purchase these or if you have second hand for sale. Happy to consider larger diameter shank if the first choice not available
Simon

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
I am also searching for new wheel nuts - spent hours on Google and Ebay but there seems to be nothing in our size.
If anyone knows of a supplier please share the details - in fact if anyone knows where some could be made that would be handy!
Many thanks.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
Buy a lathe, solves a lot of the problems and keeps one off the streets.
Other option find a decent machine shop.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
Hi there,
I had some made in stainless by Martin Chisholm in Stockport uk. He's an Aston Martin member, but his son used to campaign an S800. Not cheap but fault less. I have a lathe for sale if need be!

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
Hi Stan - so that's where the stainless nuts came from! I remember seeing these on one or two cars years ago...
I have found some rusted old ones now in my big box of tatty spares and they are currently being replated.
Thanks for the info though as this may well help some others.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
In the long run stainless is a better option, no rust, no flaky plating to cut your fingers and easy to polish if they get a bit tatty.
The cost of plating these days and they will get smaller and smaller each time you plate them.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
Pete - these are being re-plated for the first time in 20 years so should be ok for a while.
Is there an issue with stainless being more brittle? I seem to recall someone saying don't use stainless bolts in lieu of steel in suspension areas.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
Generally bolts for structural areas should be HT. Nuts on wheel studs would be OK, don't forget that there are many types of stainless and some still go rusty just like the chromed ones !
Best option for these awkward nuts is draw them up and find a good local small machine shop, its only 20 so it should not be that expensive.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
What I did with s800 was to change to 12mm wheel studs, it makes getting shanked nuts so much easier.

Re: mag wheel lug nuts required
That has crossed my mind as an idea - how do you go about doing this as the studs have a serrated section to locate them in the hub.
